Who am I?

The long version

Hello, and welcome.

I'm Ariane Saltoris—a storyteller who wears many hats. I’m a mother, published novelist, as well as the publisher behind Caipora Books, a small press devoted to Gothic literature, dark folklore, and the strange corners of storytelling.

Along the way, I’ve been honored with a writing scholarship from the State of Berlin and nominated for the ABERST literary prize. My creative life has taken many forms: from the stage as an actress and theater director, to the quiet work of writing and publishing, to building projects that explore the power of stories in unexpected ways.

Among them is The Raven Ink, where I help people transform memories into lasting narratives, and Echoes of Empathy, a program that uses horror literature and folklore to explore questions of fear, otherness, and human empathy.

My path has carried me from the Tropical Gothic landscapes of Rio de Janeiro to the super-punk energy of Berlin, where I have lived for many years. That journey between worlds shapes everything I create—stories that move between poetry and brutality, humor and darkness, myth and reality.

I am particularly drawn to folklore, Gothic fiction, and the ways cultures speak about death, memory, and the supernatural. These themes live at the heart of my work as a writer, folklorist, and publisher.

True to my Sagittarius nature, I believe in finding lightness even in the shadows and never taking myself too seriously. I’m fascinated by hidden places—those corners of imagination where beauty emerges from darkness.

I chose to share my stories directly with readers because storytelling, to me, is a conversation.

And I’m always glad to meet fellow travelers along the way.
